Spain For a Healthier Living
The Costa Blanca is one of the healthiest places to live, not just in Spain but the world, with its warmer climate and over 300 days of sunshine a year and its many salt lakes, it’s an outstanding place to live as well as explore. Its been quoted “Almost as perfect environment as it is possible to obtain”. It was also the Torrevieja area, which was voted the most healthiest place by the world health organization in 2006 as this town holds the 2 largest salt lakes in Europe, known as Laguna de la Mata and the Salinas de San Miguel.
Its the high concentrate of salt together with the temperature which is what the experts say forms a “Micro Climate” which is unique to the area and a few others places around the world. This results in a uniquely dry climate and is especially beneficial for health conditions such as Rheumatism, Asthma, and other respiratory problems.
Calpe also has a large salt lake which is situated in the center, and very close to the Penon de Ifach Natural Park and these protected natural lagoons holds many sorts of wildlife, with the most famous being the flamingos, altogether there has been 173 species of birds recorded since 1987 and another popular bird is the black winged stilt, both the flamingos and the stilts can be seen throughout the year.
The Salt Lake in Calpe has recently had several wooden walkways built and therefore the birds can be seen from a short distance away and its a very pleasant walk around. Other popular birds, which can be seen are the Slender- billed Gull, the Squacco, the Blue Rock Thrush and the Kentish Plover. A very picturesque and relaxing place to spend a few hours.
